What are “cookies” and what are they used for?
Cookies are information (small text files) entered in the user’s browser when the website is visited. They perform various and important functions within the network (e.g., execution of computer authentication, session monitoring, storage of information on specific configurations regarding users accessing the server, storing preferences, etc.). When browsing a website, the user may also receive cookies from different sites on his/her device (so-called “third party” cookies), set directly by the managers of such websites and used for the purposes and in the manner defined by the same.
Types and list of cookies used by the Site
There are different types of cookies each containing different information and performing different functions (e.g., execution of computer authentication, session monitoring, storage of preferences for targeted advertising, etc.). Each cookie, in turn, contains different types of data (e.g., the name of the server where it was generated, a numeric identifier, etc.). Such data can remain on the user’s device for different periods of time: a browser session, a few hours, several days, or for a longer duration.
Technical cookies necessary for navigation: Cookies that are used to browse or provide a service requested by the user. They are not employed for further purposes. Technical cookies are necessary to make the Site working properly. Without the use of these cookies, some operations could not be performed or would be more complex and/or far less secure. Therefore, technical cookies are indispensable. As technical cookies are essential for the proper functioning of the Site, they do not require the user’s consent.
Third-party analytical cookies used as technical cookies: Third-party analytical cookies can be compared to technical cookies only when used by the owner of the Site to optimize its performance when collecting aggregate information on the number of users and the ways in which these latter use the Site. When they are used as technical cookies, along with appropriate anonymization techniques in compliance with the provision of the Italian Data Protection Authority, the analytical cookies allow the owner of the Site to improve its functioning and the user’s experience when browsing the Site.
Marketing and profiling cookies: Cookies aimed to track the user’s navigation on the network and create profiles on his/her tastes, habits, choices, etc. By means of these cookies, advertising messages, which are consistent with the preferences expressed by the user while surfing the web, can be transmitted to the user’s device.
As profiling cookies are not strictly necessary for the proper functioning of the Site, the user can decide whether to install these cookies or not. For the installation of profiling cookies, the user’s consent is required, which can be expressed or revoked by the user.
